Now that NZ Book Month is over for another year we'd like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to all the participating authors, booksellers and publishers who play such a vital role in the success of the campaign.
March 28th 2013: Last weekend to spend your voucher
What better way to spend the longest weekend of the year than curled up with a book? Shops will be shut, everything will be covered in a thin glaze of melted chocolate, it might even rain – time to grab your $5 voucher, head down to a bookstore and take shelter in some literary escapism before it all becomes too much.
From poets to pirates, photos and stories about NZ Book Month events have been flooding our inboxes over the past week.
We are now halfway through NZ Book Month. 117 book-related events have attracted audiences young and old to schools, libraries and theatres around the country to be inspired by New Zealand writers and illustrators and their fellow readers.
It is great to see the signage loud and proud in the windows of participating stores. I have taken a few snaps on my morning walk into work. We are very spoiled in Wellington as bookstores - both new and second hand - are plentiful, especially in and around the bucket fountain!
New Zealand Book Month 2013 is upon us! If you wait until the weekend to get your mind in Book Month mode you will have missed the first in our line-up of stellar events.
The build up behind the scenes is always hectic, just like a good story there are twists and turns, setbacks and triumphs. This is the point where all the planning comes together and we are looking forward to the start of March. Get your bookmarks poised and ready!

March 2012: Kaikoura’s kids to learn from top New Zealand authors
Paper Plus Kaikoura is celebrating New Zealand Book Month by teaming with top Kiwi authors to challenge the district’s primary school children - all 500 of them - to collate their very own book, with proceeds from the sales going back into the schools.

February 2012: An update on events
Thanks to Creative New Zealand this year we’ve been able to fund 60 volunteer book activists to make a wide variety of events happen in their communities. Many others are hosting their own, un-funded events too.

April 2011: How we celebrated NZ Book Month 2011
Read a round-up of how NZ Book Month 2011 went. Together, we created over 300 events to celebrate books and reading across the country. These events took place in libraries, cafes, schools and telephone boxes, from Russell to Invercargill, and with attendees from 2 to 82 years of age.
